BONDO is supported by the Bongo Development Trust (BDT) based in the UK.
BDT’s primary goal
To relieve poverty and promote health and development in the Bongo district of Ghana, by providing improved
access to sanitation to households in remote rural areas.
BDT’s secondary goals
Where appropriate, we will also help to provide safe drinking water and assist with education in Bongo and
provide similar assistance to other rural areas of Ghana.
The story so far
Faustina Atipoka, who founded BONDO, is a member of the water and sanitation team for Bongo district. When
we met her in 2008 she was keen to provide household latrines for families in Bongo communities in order to
promote health.
We joined her in raising money for 10 latrines for the community of Nayorigo and then visited Bongo to see the
challenges first hand, learn from an artisan how Ventilated Improved Latrines are built and see how much they cost.
We will continue to fund latrines and the district water and sanitation team will provide basic health training to the households. We will also look for opportunities to improve water and education in the Bongo district of Ghana.
We have also twinned four Cambridge schools with Bongo schools. |
